Solar-thermal energy:

What is the Solar Thermal Energy?
The solar thermal energy technology consists in taking advantage of the solar radiations over the land’s surface through the heating of a fluid that passes subsequently through a turbine phase, either directly, or to the primary configurations, or through a thermal exchange system with another fluid that circulates through the turbine, in the configuration known as primary-secondary. After the phase composed by the solar equipments, which are the optical concentrator and the solar receiver, this diagram has lots of similarities with the conventional thermal-electric technologies based on the mechanic conversion of heat, and subsequently the power generation, from a generator that makes a rotary mechanic movement.

Inside the thermal-electric technology there are different systems of production. Nowadays the most developed systems are the line concentrators with a reflexive surface, also known as Cylindrical-parabolic concentrators. The other three known technologies, with a lower development level, are the Tower technology, the Dish Stirling and the Fresnel technology.

Thanks to the regulated rate that allows the economical viability of the solar thermal-electric plants, (RD 661/2007), the installations are allowed to enter the free market. In this case Cap&Floor system will be applied where the maximum incomes will be limited and the minimum ones will be assured; the conditions will be modified depending on the following characteristics:

Strengths and Oportunities:

Strengths Oportunities
  • Plentiful solar resources in the operating area
  • High technical capacity
  • Administration through hybridisation or storage system
  • Reference systems of I+D+i at a Spanish level
  • Opportunities to reduce the energetic dependence
  • Significant contribution to the objectives of reduction of emissions
  • Stabilisation factor of the fuel’s price

Economic Regime:

The Royal Decree RD 661/2007, allows the solar thermal energy installations to pay its own electric production, or depending on the prices determined by the power free market plus a bonus, or a fixed regulated rate. In the first case the Cap&Floor system will be applied, where the maximum incomes will be limited and the minimum ones will be assured. In the second case, a fixed rate will be perceived, which will be updated with the inflation.

Regulated rate:

Bonus: price obtained in the power market, establishing as inferior limits (Floor) 26.8757 c€/kWh and superior (Cap) 36.3906 c€/kWh.
Regular market First 25 years: 28.4983 c€/kWh From 25 years on: 22.7984 c€/kWh
Reference rate First 25 years: 26.8717 c€/kWh From 25 years on: 21.4973 c€/kWh

AE3000 forecast

AE3000 plans to develop different thermal-solar plants around Spain. At the end of 2011, AE3000 will have 15MW of thermal-solar power installed.
We believe in thermal-solar power. For this reason we will begin the construction of the first thermal-solar plant at the end of 2010.
We pretend to be a referent, nationally and internationally, in the renewable energies sector.
